A man is in critical condition after being electrocuted when trying to steal steel cables at an electric substation, close to a petrol station in Chuah, Port Dickson.
Port Dickson District Police Chief, Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said, the incident took place at around 12pm when the 27-year-old man committed the daring act.
He added that, when the cable was ripped out by the suspect, it caused a huge explosion heard around that area and resulting in power outages in Tanah Merah Site C until Bukit Palong.
“People who witnessed the incident contacted the police department before a team of officers rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers noticed a part of fence surrounding the building was cut.”
According to Aidi Sham, witnesses reportedly saw the suspect escaping in his motorbike with burn marks and torn shirt presumably caused by fire when the explosion happened.
“Acting off of the information, police officers were able to conduct a search through the Port Dickson Hospital Emergency Unit. The suspect was receiving treatment for the whole of his face and almost 20 percent of his body because of the burns he suffered.”
The man was then transferred to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJ), Seremban and is still in critical condition.
Upon checking the police database, it’s come to know that the suspect had past criminal records involving theft and drug abuse.
He will be arrested after his condition stabilises according to Superintendent Aidi Sham.
