The 25 year old man who robbed a bank manager at a MRT station lift in Cheras on Valentine’s Day pleaded not guilty at a Sessions court today.
G. Thinathayaalan, was accused of robbing and voluntarily causing hurt to Lee Meei Shan, 40, with the intention of taking her identification card, driver’s licence, bank cards and RM400 in cash.
The incident took place inside the lift at MRT Taman Mutiara, Cheras, at 6.45am on Feb 14.
He was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code and faces imprisonment up to 20 years and could be whipped if found guilty.
In a video that went viral, the suspect can be seen viciously attacking the victim as soon as the elevator door closes and then running off with her belongings
Deputy Public Prosecutor N. Joy Jothi did not offer bail.
“This case went viral. It happened inside a lift at an MRT station and there was a CCTV recording.
“What happened was very cruel,” she told the court.
Sessions Court judge Mahyon Talib did not grant bail. She fixed the case for mention on March 15.
The accused was unrepresented.
