1. Eating at home

Most of us who live with our parents do not need to worry about food. As long as we get home on time, there is always food on the table. If we stay out and eat out, we spent a lot.

Eating out for three meals can cost up to RM20 a day. We can save up to RM600 a month if we eat at home or half of it if we decide to only have one meal outside (RM300).

2. Electric and water bills

If we are living with our parents, we do no need to fork out a lot for electric and water bills and some don’t even pay a single cent when living with their parents. Electric and water bill can amount to RM200 a month for a family household.

3. Using a second hand car

For some of us, we have the luxury of having a car during our college/university days. Our dads usually buy us an old crappy car to use for us to understand the meaning of life and how frustrating it can get.

Well, don’t sell that car just yet. Use it till you financial stable. The first thing for many people out there who start working is to get a car. Well, if you have one don’t buy a new one just yet and if you don’t have one, get a decent second hand car.

4. Rent

One of the most wise decision to stay with your parents in your 20s is not paying rent. If you have to rent out without choice then well, you do what you have to do. But those who have the choice to still stay with their parents, just stay.

Your freedom can cost you RM600 to RM1,000 (1 bedroom apartment in Petaling Jaya) a month . So your place costs this much a month, and that leaves you like a grip of money a month? You forgot about paying for electricity and water, which is a total ripoff.

Then there’s the internet bill, groceries, your phone bill, and that’s all before you put fuel in your car that’s hopefully insured. Before you know it, it’s the 17th of the month, you have a buck and a half in the bank. Instead of paying rent, you can always save up and one day start paying for your own property.

5. Parents get to screen your boyfriend/girlfriend

This is the time of age where we meet a lot of people and we often decide to get into a serious relationship at this point of time.

But when you are in your 20s, you do not exactly know who you are and what do you want to do for the rest of your life. Sometimes we make dumb decisions that can cause us to regret for the rest of our lives.

6. Stay Focused

You need to stay focused. Your twenties are a time to have fun, and living at home is not going to be as much fun as having your own apartment. Bringing home guy/girls back to have wild sex every night and having drinking parties in your house isn’t a good way to focus.
By living with your parents, you know you got some ground rules that you need to follow. Work towards achieving your goals quickly.
The bottom line is that if you stay with your parents in your 20s, you can get to save a lot. Financially, it is wise to stay with your parents. You can actually save up RM500 to RM1,000 a month by living with your parents. To some even more!!
You also get to save up for a house in the future. Things are not getting any easier as living cost in Malaysia has gone up the roof . Rental is stupidly expensive so as property prices. Times are tough and sometimes we need to make firm decision in order to survive.
